Belén
The Cervantes
Institute, in collaboration with Fiacine, presents the Argentine feature film
Belén as a candidate for the 2026 Oscar for Best International Feature
Film. Synopsis: Belén
follows the story of Julieta, a young woman from Tucumán who arrives at a
hospital covered in blood, where she discovers she is pregnant and is arrested
by the police on charges of having had an illegal abortion. Julieta is taken to
trial. Soledad Deza, a lawyer who will do everything possible to prove
Julieta's innocence, takes on her defence. In the process, both women will face
the challenge of confronting a conservative judicial system. Meanwhile, Belén's
story begins to have an impact in the national media and receive support from
the feminist movement. After the screening, the film's director and star, Dolores Fonzi, will hold a Q&A with the audience.
